A Day To Love

Romance doesn't look the same for everyone, I guess. I don’t know if many people will call our Valentine’s Day particularly romantic, but for me, it has been perfect! I woke up this morning to a sweet card and Godiva Chocolate!  And I was able to remind my Superman just how much he means to me. We decided to keep Valentine gestures small this year because the best gift we could give each other is to be ready to go get Cora Lakshmi as soon as we get the call.

So we spent our time today sorting through the things we've gathered to take to Ind*a and packing as much as we can. We had Valentine’s lunch at a new local restaurant that we love and even came home with a little something for the Valentine we long to have with us. The rest of our day has been much the same. Simple, focused on our girl and together. And a sweet treat here and there!

Mango Lassi....YUM!
Throughout the day we have both just been giddy happy and in the middle of lunch we looked at each other and asked the simple question….Why? The answer on the surface is obvious…we have finally come close to the end of this journey and the beginning of our forever family. But there is a deeper question that has been asked of us so many times and we ask it of ourselves often.

Why?

Why love a child that we have no biological tie to? Why love a child who is halfway across the world? Why love a little girl we have never met? Why wait and scrape and cry and fret and fight to love a child? Why love a child who by the standards of other people may be considered broken and imperfect and different? Why love a child who doesn't share our skin or our hair or our eyes or our genes?

Why?

The answer is that we do. We love her. To us, she isn't broken or imperfect because the truth is that we are all broken. We are all imperfect. So, by that standard, Cora Lakshmi isn't different at all. She’s just like us. We may not look alike on the outside, but our hearts are the same. Our hearts have been broken again and again throughout this process. I may never know the reason for sure, but I believe it was necessary. God carved a place in our hearts to fit our beautiful, strong, joyful little girl. God carved a place, planted a seed, and nurtured this love that now thrives. A love for our girl. A love for her culture. A love for her country and its people. We love Cora Lakshmi because we choose to. We choose her. She is wanted. She is worthy. She is loved. She is our daughter forever.

We love her more every day as we wait to bring her home.

We are still waiting for documents to be finalized in Ind*a. We are still waiting on her passport. We are packed and ready, though, whenever the call comes in!

We will be there soon, my daughter!
So very soon!

Happy Valentine's Day, baby girl!
